Complexion Med Spa offers the “Auto Revolution™ Sunless Spray Tan Booth System by Norvell”, a state-of-the-art “smart booth” that utilizes ground breaking technology to deliver a sunless spray tan experience. The booth successfully simulates a hand-held airbrush spraying session while offering the privacy and cost-efficiency of an automatic spray booth session.
Equipped with height sensors, the auto booth calibrates to your body, based on the height of the client, creating a completely customized session.

The process generally takes a brief 5-7 minutes. The automated voice commands guide clients through two easy positions. Simply face front, then face back. No complicated positions needed.

WHAT IS A CUSTOMIZED AIRBRUSH SPRAY TAN?

A customized airbrush spray tan is a form of sunless spray tanning performed by one of our trained, certified, and experienced airbrush technicians. Our artists use unparalleled sculpting and contouring techniques to slim, trim, and define your best features during the process. The solutions our artists use include a cosmetic bronzer that gives our clients a sun-kissed “off the bleach” glow, instantly. The DHA or dihydroxyacetone, is the active ingredient that interacts with the top layer of your skin cells to produce a radiant, tanned look.

WHAT IS DHA?

DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is a colorless chemical derived from sugarcane that interacts with the amino acids in skin cells to produce a brownish color appearance. DHA reacts with amino acids in dead skin cells in the surface layer of the skin. A chemical reaction takes place and compounds called melanoidins are formed. These brown pigments color the skin in a way that mimics a tan. DHA is FDA approved for cosmetic use and is non-toxic.

WHEN SHOULD I GET A CUSTOMIZED AIRBRUSH SPRAY TAN?

If you’re looking for a tan for a special event, we recommend scheduling your appointment 1-2 days before. You receive your best color the first three days of the tan.

HOW OFTEN CAN I GET A CUSTOMIZED AIRBRUSH SPRAY TAN?

You can get an airbrush spray tan for any special occasion or you can visit us once a week to maintain a year-round glow. It is best to exfoliate any remaining color from previous sessions before coming in for a fresh application.

DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

Yes. We recommend that you schedule an appointment for your airbrush spray tan so that one of our certified spray technicians can be available for you when you arrive. Although walk-ins are also welcome, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate you if you a certified spray technician is not on a site at that time OR we may not be able to accommodate you right away if there are other appointments ahead of you.

HOW LONG WILL MY SPRAY TAN LAST?

One of our certified airbrush technicians will help you determine exactly the kind of complexion and color tone that you are looking for which will last anywhere from 5-10 days depending on:

The color and level of color you choose.
How much time you spend in the shower.
Which products you use on your skin, body, and hair.
How often you exercise and sweat.
How fast your skin naturally exfoliates.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?

The application process is takes no more than 5-10 minutes, however we book clients for 15- minute appointments to allow us to discuss the options that would best suit your needs and answer any questions you may have, if needed.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY APPOINTMENT?

Wear dark, loosely fitted clothing walking in to your appointment. Our booth/room provides full privacy, so you can wear a bikini, bra/underwear, topless or go nude during your session. Disposable undergarments are also available.

WHAT SHOULD I DO PRIOR TO MY APPOINTMENT?

Take a long, hot shower and exfoliate your entire body with a non-oily scrub/loofa the day before your session. Exfoliation prepares your skin for the spray tan treatment and helps to maximize the duration of your tan.
DO NOT use “Dove” soap, “Dove” products, or anything that says “renewing”, “regenerating”, “anti-aging”, or “anti-acne”. They have ingredients in them that will remove your tan. Sulfate-free and natural products are best.
Shave and/or wax the day before.
DO NOT apply any make-up, lotions, oils, deodorant, etc. on to your face and body on the day of your appointment.
Arrive with your hair pulled up/tied back and wear dark, loosely fitted clothing. Tight clothing will rub off a portion of the tanning treatment before it has had a chance to work on your skin. Please DO NOT wear a sports bra or leggings!
Please keep all jewelry at home.
Manicures, pedicures, and waxing should NOT be done the same day as your spray tan.
If it is raining, please bring an umbrella and/or a hoodie/sweatshirt.

WHAT SHOULD I DO DURING MY SPRAY TAN?

The most important thing to do is to apply plenty of barrier lotion (which we provide) onto your cuticles, bottoms of your feet, and palms of your hands . . . to prevent the solution color from developing on them. These parts of your body do not typically tan, so it’s important to keep the solution off of them for a natural looking result. Other than that, our certified airbrush technician will guide you through the rest.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER MY APPOINTMENT AND MY FIRST SHOWER POST MY CUSTOMIZED AIRBRUSH SPRAY TAN?

Avoid any liquids or water so as to prevent any contact with the skin.
No skin-to-skin contact or rubbing on the skin within the first 6 hours of your application.
Avoid exercising and sweating.
DO NOT wear a bra for at least 1 hour after session.
Only wash the hands (palms) with hand sanitizer.
NO lotion, perfume, body spray, makeup or deodorant the remainder of the day.
Wait at least 8-12 hours before showering. We do offer a rapid solution which allows you to shower within 1 to 3 hours.
During your first post-tan shower, use warm water only and no soap.
During your first shower, you will see a “tea” like color rinsing off of your skin. Don’t worry, your tan is still intact! This is just the cosmetic bronzer rinsing off and this is meant to happen.
“Pat” your skin dry after showering.
Apply moisturizer morning and evening beginning after your first post-tan shower (avoid moisturizers with mineral oils and fragrances).
Moisturizing often will prolong the color and life of your tan along with helping it fade naturally.

HOW SHOULD I MAINTAIN MY CUSTOMIZED AIRBRUSH SPRAY TAN?

Apply moisturizer morning and evening after your post-tan shower (avoid moisturizers with harsh mineral oils, alcohols, and sulfates).
Avoid long, hot showers and baths.
Avoid scrubbing the skin excessively.
Avoid rubbing towels on your skin after daily showers and instead pat your skin dry.
Chlorine in swimming pools and hot tubs can remove or shorten the longevity of your tan.
Take care when exercising as friction and excess sweat may cause your tan to fade prematurely or unevenly.

CAN I CHOOSE THE SHADE OF MY AIRBRUSH TAN?

Yes! You can choose anything from a healthy glowing tan to a deep dark bronze. Although there is no ‘color chart’. We will help guide you toward a choice that will work well with your own natural skin color. Norvell’s sunless solutions work with your skin’s natural chemistry, by molding to its tone. Therefore, no two people will have the exact same result.

CAN I BREATHE WHILE I GET MY CUSTOMIZED AIR BRUSH SPRAY TAN?

Yes, you can. As we said previously the solutions are 100% organic. They will not harm you. If you are concerned you can just hold your breath as the mist goes over your face or we offer complimentary nose plugs. Excess spray is immediately removed from the air via the ventilation system built into our spray booth that our certified technician will be airbrushing you in.

IS A SPRAY TAN SAFE?

Yes! Our Norvell solution’s active ingredient, DHA (dihydroxyacetone) has been approved for cosmetic use by the FDA. It is non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. DHA is a sugar that interacts with amino acids in the top layer of your skin to produce pigment called melanoidins. It is a simple non-toxic sugar derived from sugar cane. When applied to the skin, it penetrates only the top layer of skin, and does not absorb into the body or bloodstream. The solution works naturally with your skin and your body’s PH to produce a flawless looking result.

IS YOUR SOLUTION ORGANIC?

Our solution is Paraben Free, Gluten Free, Sulfate Free, Phthalate Free, GMO Free, Triclosan Free, Cruelty Free, All-Natural Fragrance, 100% Vegan, Nut-Allergen Free. The main ingredient in the solution is DHA, which is derived from sugarcane. There are small portions of the solution that are not considered organic though. Norvell does have an organic solution but we do not carry it. We have tried Norvell’s organic solution and many other organic however we have never been satisfied with the color or how these solutions fade so we have chosen not to carry them here.

CAN I WORK OUT AFTER MY SUNLESS SESSION?

We recommend you do not get wet or sweat for at least 10 to 12 hours. Take care when exercising as friction and excess sweat may cause your tan to fade prematurely or evenly.

WILL I TURN ORANGE LIKE IN THAT EPISODE FROM “FRIENDS”?

No! The old “Blue Box” is ancient history when it comes to the spray tanning industry and how far they have come with today’s technology. The Norvell Auto Revolution Booth and the Norvell solution our machine provides a unique blend of anti-orange bronzer pigments, designed to counter an unwanted orange undertone for a natural-looking tan.

WHEN CAN I GET MY NAILS DONE BEFORE AND AFTER A SPRAY TAN?

We recommend you get your nails done at least 2 hours before your sunless session. Barrier cream will be applied to protect your nails from the solution and you will be able clean them after your session. Also, make sure to remove any wipe any lotion from your skin before your session.

You can get a manicure/pedicure afterwards but we recommend you do it after your first shower and we suggest you skip the exfoliation. Also, acetone will fade your sunless tan so make sure they are careful when removing polish.

DO I NEED TO KNOW ANYTHING ELSE?

The most important thing to know is that you should not get wet after your spray tan. Not getting wet includes avoiding rain, sweating, or anything that will make you wet. Getting wet can cause streaking. For the best results, we also advise our clients to sleep with the tan if you can and shower in the morning.
