/ Benefits of Waxing

Healthier Skin

Waxing is like mechanical exfoliation process leaving you with brighter, younger looking skin.

SMOOTHER SKIN

After your wax, you’ll probably find that your skin is smoother than it’s ever been. That’s because waxing removes hair from the root and exfoliates your skin.

LONGER-LASTING RESULTS

When hair is removed by the root, it takes much longer to grow back than with shaving.

MINIMAL IRRITATION

Many people find hair removal methods like epilation and creams irritating to the skin. However, waxing rarely causes this problem if it’s done by one of our licensed professionals at Complexion Med Spa.

/ Ready To Get Waxed?

We offer two different methods of waxing, hard wax and soft wax. Both methods provide stunning results and work well with sensitive skin.

Soft Wax

Soft Wax requires a strip to remove the hair and is normally used on larger areas of the body such as arms, legs, back and chest.

Hard Wax

Hard Wax is a strip is normally used on more sensitive areas of the body such as Brazilian/Bikini and small areas.  Our expert aestheticians will discuss your treatment prior to starting your treatment and will recommend the best type of wax to minimize discomfort.

/How to Prepare for your Wax

EXFOLIATE
Taking a warm shower gently exfoliates the skin prior to your appointment. This will provide an exit of the hair follicles and ensure the best results.
STEER CLEAR OF STIMULANTS
Avoid caffeine and alcohol immediately before your appointment.  Stimulants in the system can cause additional sensitivity to the skin.
AVOID SKIN-SENSITIVE MEDICATIONS
Do not wax if you are on any skin sensitive medications such as Accutane or Retin-A. Hyper sensitive skin may tear due to the heat of the wax.
KEEP THE SKIN CLEAN
Do not apply heavy creams, gels, or oils to the skin before your appointment to ensure the wax adheres properly to the skin.
REDUCE PAIN
Feel free to apply numbing cream 15-20 minutes prior to your appointment and take ibuprofen 30-45 minutes prior in order to dull the nerves and ease any discomfort.
FIRST TIMER?
Let us know if this is your first time, waxing; have had previous adverse reactions to waxing; if it’s that time of the month; OR if you are pregnant. This will allow us to cater our service to your needs.
DON'T SWEAT IT
Avoid heat-related activities such as hot baths, steam rooms, and tanning; immediately before your appointment.

Post Care After Your Waxing Treatment

  • CONSISTENCY PAYS OFF
After your first waxing treatment with us, every following wax treatment gets easier and easier (as long as you don’t shave!)
Shaving between waxes can cause itching, or worse… ingrown hairs. So put down that razor!
  • SEX AFTER BIKINI WAX
Our advice is to wait 24 to 48 hours so your skin has time to heal and hair follicles can close. Doing so will prevent any further skin irritation.
  • IT’S NORMAL
you may experience some redness, which usually subsides within 24 hours. If it was your first time getting waxed or have coarse hair, you may experience more irritation than usual due to the follicles being more rooted. Apply Vitamin E and Aloe Cream to reduce irritation and keep your skin soothed.
  • AVOID SHAVING
You’ll have the urge to pick up the razor, but don’t do it. Regular, consistent waxing will lead to regrowth that is softer and sometimes even sparser.
  • LET IT BREATHE
Wear loose, comfortable clothing, which allows the skin to breathe and minimizes irritation.
  • EXFOLIATE
To eliminate ingrown hairs, it’s vital to exfoliate your pores daily with an exfoliating wash cloth.
  • DON’T SWEAT IT
Avoid heat related activities such as hot baths, steam rooms and tanning. Excessive sweat or heat may cause irritation to your freshly opened pores. Steer clear of foot soaks too if you’ve just had a lower leg wax.
  • KEEP IT CLEAN
Avoid applying heavy creams, gels or oils containing any harsh chemicals that may irritate the skin.

/ A BREAKDOWN FOR BIKINI WAX STYLES

Bikini Waxing

UNDERSTANDING WAX TYPES

If you’ve heard the terms “Bikini wax”, “French Bikini” & “Brazilian wax” you may be confused. But don’t worry—we’re here to clear things up:

American (Regular Bikini)

A basic tidy-up; we wax the sides (called your panty line) and across the top.  If you’re wearing a bikini this prevents any hairs from peeking out.

French

Take as much as you’d like off the top + sides, leaving just the labia. Between-the-cheeks included.

BRAZILIAN

Goes from the front all the way to the back with an added butt strip and tummy trail. It’s perfect for a completely nude look or you can leave a neat triangle, strip, or square on the front—totally your choice.

/ Frequently Asked Questions

DOES WAXING HURT?
Yes and no. It really depends on you, the client. For those with sensitive skin, we recommend taking an ibuprofen or aspirin roughly 30 minutes before your appointment to help maximize your comfort. Pro-tip: waxing more frequently will help with sensitivity as hair grows back finer and sparse.
HOW LONG DOES A WAXING TREATMENT TAKE?
Depending on the density of the hair growth and how many areas we are treating for you, your waxing appointment will take anywhere between 15-45 minutes. But with swift, experienced hands by your side at Complexion Med Spa, our efficient experts will ensure a quick, effective treatment and the results are well worth it.
CAN I GET A BIKINI WAX OR BRAZILIAN WAX DURING MY PERIOD?
Yes, just keep in mind that your pubic area is often more sensitive during this time, so you may experience a bit more discomfort than usual. In order to successfully complete the service, you will need to wear a tampon.
IS IT SAFE TO HAVE A BIKINI WAX WHILE PREGNANT?
First off, congrats on expecting! And yes, you can still receive a bikini wax while pregnant. However, you may experience more skin sensitivity due to the hormonal changes your body is going through. No need to worry, our experts will make you as comfortable as possible throughout your treatment. For treatments during the last 2 months of your pregnancy, we do recommend checking with your doctor first.
HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT MY RESULTS TO LAST?
How quickly hair regrows may depend on several factors: your personal hair growth cycle, breakage, the areas of your body that were treated, and how frequently you get waxed. The beauty of waxing is knowing you’ll be hair-free for a minimum of 2 weeks and up to even 4 weeks following your wax appointment.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET WAXED?
How often you get a wax is slightly dependent on the area, but we recommend waxing every 4 weeks for the best results.
DO I HAVE TO TRIM BEFORE TREATMENT?
No. Do not trim. Most people trim too much and the hair is then too short to wax. Your hair should be about 1/4″ long in order to allow the wax to adhere to the hair well and make the waxing process smooth. If your hair is too long to wax, we will trim it, if it’s too short to wax, you would have to reschedule to have the area waxed at a later time.
WILL THIS PERMANENTLY REMOVE MY HAIR?
No, this is not a permanent hair removal process. Your hair will regrow finer and thinner however and the more often waxing is done the less you see hair.
HOW SHORT SHOULD MY HAIR BE TO HAVE IT WAXED?
Your hair should be about 1/4″ long in order to allow the wax to adhere to the hair well and make the waxing process smooth. If your hair is too long to wax, we will trim it, if it’s too short to wax, you would have to reschedule to have the area waxed at a later time.
CAN I GET WAXED IF I’M TAKING MEDICATION?
It’s always best to refer to your doctor if you have any questions about bikini waxing services. For prescribed creams like Retin-A or Differin, we advise that you stop use 7 days prior to your appointment with us and do not resume use until 7 days after.

Unfortunately, you cannot get waxed if you are on Accutane or have been in the past 6 months. It’s very dangerous to wax while on Accutane and a doctor’s note will be needed in order to do so. This is why it’s so important to inform our staff and your aesthetician of what medications you may be taking so we can provide you with a safe, comfortable waxing experience.
