/ How Does It Work?

The Vi Peel is safe and effective for all skin types, textures and tones. It uses a combination of compounds including Retinoic Acid, Vitamin C, Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA), Salicylic Acid, Phenol and other minerals to deeply exfoliate the skin and reveal the smoother, brighter, less damaged layers of the skin underneath. By removing layers of skin, Vi Peel promotes cellular turnover, which refines the skin’s surface for a smoother, clearer, more firm appearance, providing patients with the youthful, radiant complexion they desire.

The skin will begin to peel 1-3 days after treatment, and will continue to do so for up to a week. The peeling will resemble sunburn. Once peeling is complete the skin will begin to rebuild itself, and slowly your results will continue to improve for up to 2 months. At this point you will see optimal results.

By removing layers of skin, the body’s natural healing processes begin to work and rebuild essential compounds such as collagen and elastin, giving you naturally supple, reborn skin and a glowing complexion.

As it is one of the strongest peels we offer, Vi Peel can leave patients with slight redness, and sensitive skin. Be sure to wear sunscreen, and initially limit sun exposure, as well as the use of harsh face washes or cleansers. However, these side effects should vanish within a few days. Despite this the procedure is pain free, aside from mild tingling.

HOW LONG WILL MY VI PEEL TAKE?

Generally, about 30 minutes.

WILL MY VI PEEL HURT?

No, there is virtually no pain during this treatment although it will feel tingly, but surprisingly comfortable.

WILL I SEE RESULTS AFTER ONE VI PEEL?

Yes, though you will notice a great improvement after just 1 treatment, it usually takes several treatment sessions around every 4 to 6 weeks to reach optimal results and desired outcome. With consistent treatments sessions over several months, patients will be astonished by how much better their skin looks.

HOW LONG UNTIL I SEE RESULTS AFTER MY VI PEEL?

You will immediately notice a nice improvement in texture, tone, and color although it takes about 4-7 days after your skin is finished peeling for your skin to return to its normal PH, in which you will see the final effects. The skin will look luminous and glowing.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME? HOW LONG UNTIL I AM HEALED?

This is a peel, so you will definitely . . . peel! We typically advise that you get this treatment in the evening or over the weekend as the immediate downtime is approximately 4 hours. You may see the early signs of exfoliation within the first 24 hours however peeling generally begins on day 3 and ends on day 7.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Thanks to its unique formulation, the Vi Peel has very little side effects and skin sensitivity is kept to a minimum. The most common side effects associated with a Vi Peel treatment includes a slight stinging sensation when the peel is first applied. The numbing kicks in a few moments after the peel is first applied. Right after the peel, your skin will look slightly tan, yellow or red. For the next two days, your skin will feel slightly tighter. Some pigmented areas on your face may appear slightly darker.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Minimize sun exposure and DO NOT tan for 2 to 3 weeks before treatment.
DO NOT wax at least 5 to 7 days before treatment.
DO NOT exfoliate or use aggressive products for at least 1 week before treatment.
Avoid using any chemical hair removing treatments at least 1 week before treatment.
An antiviral medication may be prescribed.
A preparatory retinoid or tretinoin cream may be prescribed to prime the skin.
A bleaching agent may be recommended to prevent changes in skin pigmentation.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER VI PEEL?

During the week following the peel, you must moisturize and use a gentle cleanser. We recommend the VI Derm Cleanser for all skin types, along with the Post Peel Protectant (for use until it runs out) and SPF 50 Sun Protection. You may also use your own cleanser as long as it is not harsh or abrasive. It is essential to use an SPF 30 or higher on any treated areas every day.
Avoid sun exposure. You should completely avoid sun exposure days 3 and 4, which is when the skin is peeling most. When those days pass, it is acceptable to have some sun exposure, while continuing your skin care routine at home and practicing daily sun protection.
After about 4 days when your skin is done peeling, it will return to its normal PH levels and you can enjoy the final and dramatic difference in your skin. The skin will appear luminous and glowing and any hyper pigmentation issues will be improved or eliminated. Tone and texture will also be greatly improved and you will have an overall youthful, more radiant appearance.

SHOULD I MOISTURIZE RIGHT AFTER MY VI PEEL?

YES, keep the skin as moist as possible. Use Vaseline or Aquaphor for any “hot spots”. DO NOT use any kind of exfoliation until after the skin has finished peeling. The more your skin is moisturized, the faster it’s going to heal. Try applying a thick layer of a gentle, unscented moisturizer all over your face before you got to bed at night. Not only will it help to speed up your recovery but it will also soothe your skin so that it doesn’t feel so irritated.
Zinc-Oxide lotions are exceptionally gentle to the skin after a Vi Peel.
Use a Vitamin C serum. Chemical peels enhance melanin activity. Therefore, it is always a good idea to apply a Vitamin C serum, which calms melanin cells.

CAN I SHOWER AFTER MY VI PEEL?

DO NOT wash, touch, or apply make-up and/or sunscreen for at least 4 – 6 hours while peel is on the skin. APPLY NOTHING. After 4-6 hours, only take a light shower in lukewarm water. If you have excessive itching or irritation prior to this time period, you may wash the treated area with a mild cleanser and water. DO NOT take “steam” showers.

HOW SHOULD I SLEEP AFTER MY VI PEEL?

Following your treatment, try to sleep on your back with the head of the bed slightly elevated to minimize swelling after your treatment. Using an extra pillow will help facilitate elevation. We recommend you place a Terry Cloth towel on your pillow to minimize the sticking of your face to the pillow. Avoid rolling onto your face. Sleeping on your back for at least the first week is recommended.

CAN I EXERCISE AFTER MY VI PEEL?

Not right away. We recommend you refrain from any physical activity for 3 to 4 days following treatment. Physical activity raises the body temperature significantly which induces sweating. Perspiration/sweating may cause blistering or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation in the skin.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I PEEL MY SKIN AFTER MY VI PEEL?

Touching, picking, or pulling on the peeling skin interrupts your skin’s natural healing cycle. What’s more, you are likely to interfere with the results, increase your chance of infection, and may even cause permanent hyperpigmentation. In a nutshell, DO NOT peel at your skin!

WHICH IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VI PEEL VS MICRONEEDLING?

Both Vi peels and micro-needling will improve the appearance of your skin. Vi Peels generally work best on superficial imperfections, while micro-needling penetrates deeper to improve more troublesome issues. Micro-needling will reach deeper under the skin to promote healing of scarred areas.

SHOULD I GET A VI PEEL BEFORE DOING MICRO-NEEDLING?

Yes, we recommend that you have a Vi peel first to exfoliate the top layers of your skin. Then, 4-6 weeks later, you can start your micro-needling treatments to boost collagen production in the deeper layers of your skin.

WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR VI PEEL?

Patients who are pregnant or who are breast-feeding.
Patients who have an aspirin, hydroquinone, or phenol allergy.
Patients who have used oral isotretinoin (accutane) within the past 6 months.
Patients who have active cold cores, warts, open wounds, or a history of herpes simplex.
Patients who are undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy within the last 6 months.
Patients with a history of lupus, autoimmune, or liver disease/disorder as well as any condition that may weaken their immune system.
