A FACE LIFT WITHOUT THE SURGERY

Until recently, the only way to address problems caused by facial skin laxity, such as jowls and drooping cheeks – was facelift surgery. After all, while skin resurfacing treatments can help to restore some degree of firmness, once loose skin is present, only a scalpel can truly remove it. However, not everyone is willing or able to have surgery. If you are someone who prefers to avoid going under the knife, you’ll be happy to know that a new type of procedure has been developed to fill in the gap between noninvasive facial rejuvenation and facelift surgery. With that said, Complexion Med Spa offers you: The PDO Thread Lift (a non-surgical face lift).

/ THE PDO THREAD LIFT PROCESS

This incredible procedure involves temporary sutures being used to produce a subtle but visible “lift” in the skin. Instead of removing the patient’s loose facial skin surgically, our medical professional will simply suspend it by stitching up portions of any loose and saggy skin. This has the effect of pulling the skin back slightly and therefore lifting and tightening the face. In addition to being ideal for lifting the skin, “threads” combat aging in another way: by provoking the body’s “healing response” and causing the body to direct large surges of collagen to the treated areas.

This is important because of the vital role collagen plays in the aging process. Collagen helps support “growth factors” that greatly influences the condition of our skin. In addition to being used for wound healing, collagen helps to keep our skin strong, voluminous, and supple. And as we get older, our bodies gradually produce less and less collagen, which leads to an 80% reduction in skin thickness by about age 70. This loss of volume and strength is a large factor in the creation of excess skin and wrinkles. As the skin grows weaker, it’s no longer able to support the tissues beneath it adequately, meaning that gravity pulls it downwards and stretches it. Infusing the skin of the face with fresh collagen (when the signs of skin laxity are still mild) can help to both reduce looseness (by thickening and hydrating the skin) and prevent it from getting worse (by strengthening the skin).

/ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT ARE PDO THREADS?

PDO threads are synthetic, absorbable sterile surgical sutures composed of Polydioxanone. PDO sutures/threads are commonly used during open heart and thoracic surgery and have been found to be one of the safest materials to be implanted in the body. When placed under the skin, PDO threads produce controlled fibrosis in the surrounding area, and this gives rise to the creation of collagen networks. After 4 to 6 months the body fully absorbs the suture without leaving any scar tissue.

HOW DOES A PDO THREAD TREATMENT WORK?

Once implanted into the skin, the threads produce an immediate and visible lifting effect while tightening the skin. The lifting effect continues over the next 2 to 3 months as new collagen is produced around the threads. Over time, the threads are broken down and reabsorbed by the body; however, the new collagen produced due to the threads aids in maintaining long lasting results. The new collagen production created by the PDO threads also improves skin texture, laxity, and overall complexion.

HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?

The longevity of the results varies from person to person based on your skin’s health, age, genetics, and many other factors. We will be better able to provide the duration of the effect after a thorough consultation examining your skin laxity, heaviness, and the required number of threads needed. The results typically last around 5 months to 2 years. More threads can be inserted after the initial treatment in order to maintain and even improve their effects.

ARE THE RESULTS AS GOOD AS A FACE LIFT?

The results from our PDO Thread Lifts are never as good as the results one can achieve from a surgical face lift or a neck lift. If you have severe sagging, you might want to consider surgery. However, if you have mild sagging of the areas discussed, you may be a good candidate for this minimally invasive procedure that involves no cutting, surgery, or general anesthesia.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Many people see some minor results immediately after the procedure. However, best results are seen around 2 to 3 weeks after the procedure, as this gives the tissues time to form the collagen and fibrous connective tissue needed to tighten, firm, and create volume in your skin’s deep tissues.

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME AND WHAT CAN I EXPECT POST TREATMENT?

Downtime for this treatment is minimal and most patients can return to normal activities the next day. Mild swelling and bruising can occur, and cover-up make-up may be necessary for a few days or longer, depending on your body’s natural healing process. Strenuous exercise is NOT recommended right away as it can move the threads. We recommend to keep a rested face for at least 48 hours.

ARE THE SUTURES PERMANENT?

PDO sutures are made of an absorbable material that has been used for years in other parts of the body. There has never been a problem with the use of this material over the years. Rarely are there any allergic reactions to the material. The sutures dissolve over the next 4 to 6 months, leaving no residual material present because they are broken down by a process called hydrolysis (they turn into water). The new collagen and fibrous tissue that have formed around the sutures then continue to hold the skin up and tighten the skin.

WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE PDO THREADLIFT TREATMENT?

The PDO Thread Lift treatment is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women; anyone with a history of an allergic reaction to the medical device or any of its active ingredients (Polydioxanone); as well as anyone with infected or inflamed skin, bleeding disorders, or individuals with a tendency to produce excessive scarring such as keloids and/or hypertrophic scars, unrealistic expectations, excessive skin laxity, autoimmune diseases, vascular disease, and other conditions that cause delayed healing.

WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS OF PDO THREAD TREATMENT?

The vast majority of patients do not experience any side effects. Common and minor side effects include some irritation and bruising at the injection sites, suture extrusions, and temporary dimpling of the skin. Occasionally, a suture can show itself just below the skin. Most of these potential problems resolve themselves over the following weeks after the procedure as the PDO threads break down and dissolve.

Rare side effects include infection, scarring, serious allergic reactions, skin pigment changes, and damage to nerves and deeper structures.

This is not a complete list of side effects. Please contact us immediately if you experience any rare and/or unforeseeable side effects after your treatment.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR THE PDO THREADLIFT TREATMENT?

The PDO Thread Lift is an effective non-surgical face lifting treatment that is suitable for anyone looking to improve the appearance of sagging skin. This treatment is suitable for someone who is willing to undergo some injections, and who wants to attain an immediate lift of the facial contours without undergoing a facelift surgery. It is best suited for men and women who are unwilling to tolerate the long downtime of a facelift surgery but want to look refreshed and lifted.
